he history of the world had been waiting for this moment. The prophet Zechariah had written hundreds of years before this day, “See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey.”
This was the beginning of the passion of Christ. In five days he would celebrate the Passover with His disciples. He would wash their feet. He would pray in the garden. He would be betrayed. He would be put on trial.
The history of the world was waiting for this moment.
On Friday he would stand before His people, the Jews, and they would cry out “Give us Barabbas!” He would be flogged, slapped, a crown of thorns placed on His head, insulted and abandoned by His Father.
An unnamed soldier would take a hammer and nails and affix His hands and feet to a cross. He would be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness.
He would cry out, “My God! My God! Why have you forsaken me.”
And why?
