long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.” (Ps. 61:4)
This part of the Hosanna image is a tent, a tabernacle. It is a shelter for the seller of fruit, fabric, baskets, and other trinkets. It reminds us that Christ is our refuge and strength whom God gives to his believers. It is a place of refuge.
Jesus said in John 15:8 “This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” The fruit that Jesus is referring to are the works that come “from” faith, not those thought to be a “substitute” for faith. Christ is the tabernacle that covers our sin and protects our fruits of love.
The prophet Isaiah wrote, “ All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags...” (Is.64:6)
The outcome of this realization, that God has accepted us not for what we do, but because of what He has done for us and what He makes us. This is indeed reason for great joy, as can be seen in the face and action of the vendor.
