“Lazarus! Come forth!”

Place mouse over image of Jesus.

From John 11

21 "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."
23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

DECORATIVE A 703ave you considered how Lazarus might have faced the second and final time that he would die? Do you think he would be afraid? This event was just a preview of coming attractions, for Jesus, as the victor over death, would utterly defeat death and, on the last day raise all from the grave.

After Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead, the word spread like wildfire. In John 12 it says:

17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"
